Externships

Veterinary School

We usually have 2-3 veterinary students come our way each year to for a 1-2 week externship.  You’ll work side by side with our doctors scheduled to see Outpatient Appointments.  Besides our Outpatient Appointments, you’ll also have time to spend with our Urgent Care / Hospitalization Team and our Surgery & Dentistry Team.  Call or email Grant for more information.  We have housing for you if you need it.

Portland Community College Veterinary Technology Program Experiential Learning

We work closely with this program, often hosting 2-3 Veterinary Technician students each year for their 160 hour experiential learning session.  We have an experienced and compassionate Health Care Team who are eager to share their skill and knowledge to help you develop your talent.  You will be well supported and have several opportunities to practice developing your foundation technician skills.  We usually ask you to pick your three most important learning objectives so we can make sure you have the time, caseload, and opportunities to practice.  We’re here to help.

Shawna is our PCC Vet Tech Student for spring quarter, 2010.  She’s learning how to administer safe anesthesia, how to care for hospitalized and intensive care patients, and perform dental teeth cleanings.

High School Internships

From time to time, we work closely with a local High School student to show them what a career would be like in the veterinary profession.  We’ve had three Roosevelt students complete an internship program with us.  If you’re interested in exploring this option with us, call or email Grant for details.
